Okitsu is 11.3 km away from Yui. Hiroshige depicts the journey of Sumo wrestlers crossing Okitsu River. He presents the waterfront from Kawaguchi to Suruga Bay, and the tranquility on the journey. Also, his depiction is somehow interesting: a wrestler’s body is sticking out from the palanquin and four carriers are tottering under his weight. Hiroshige avoids monotony in this series: he combines the hardship of the trip, sadness and humor throughout the fifty-five pictures. Nowadays, bullet trains pass by Okitsu River in a few seconds, but a long time ago it was a place of peace on the trip.
