Totsuka station, 9 km away from Hodogaya, was the furthest station reachable in one day for travelers leaving early in the morning from the Nihonbashi-Bridge. As Totsuka was at the junction on the road to Kamakura, you can see the sign, “Left for Kamakura” in the center of the picture. Some of the wooden plates hanging under the Komeya teahouse on the left represent religious gatherings that took place there. The figures of the person who has just gotten off their horse, the person untying their woven hat, and the woman of the teahouse greeting her guests blend into the twilight scenery. Komeya, a teahouse located at the foot of the bridge of Kashiogawa River, existed until recently.
