Kawasaki Station is located 10 km away from Shinagawa. This work depicts the pier at the Rokugogawa-River just before the station. Rokugogawa River is another name for one of the braches of the Tamagawa River. When the Tamagawa River flowed into Ebara-Rokugo Village, people began to call the river Rokugo River. Amidst the scenery of the great Mt. Fuji in the background, covered in white snow, the azure river, and the deep green trees around the station, is a boatman with his body bent like an arrow, ferrying travelers across the river. On the other shore, there are people waiting for the boat to come. It seems like the scenery depicts a slow and peaceful moment, but it in fact took a lot of time and money to travel across this river; it was so fast that people would call it a wild river, and it was not popular with travelers.
