Eight Views of Famous Teahouse Beauties: A Mirror
This is one of the series of a works illustrated a famous teahouse beauty written in around 1796 (Kansei 8). A haiku-poem written in the upper right area indicates this is a portrait of Okita of Naniwa-ya. Her left hand symmetrically reflected in the mirror gives us somehow geometrical impression, which increases the attractiveness of her white hand. The reference published in 1793 said Okita was sixteen, so she was about 19 in this portrait. Her fresh beauty is being full of the screen.
