Geikoku and seal
This piece is a series of drawings of women living in Shinagawa, Shinjyuku, Fukagawa, where south, west and east south of Edo respectively. This work is considered to illustrate a courtesan in Shinyoshiwara. We remind of Tomimotoo Toyohina, who has a To in the first letter. The woman’s facial expression smiling and covering her mouth with one hand is drawn beautifully with fluid lines of face line and hand elegantly. Her deep black hair creates aura of brilliance. The style drawing an upper half body closely is called okubi-e (close-up portraits of beautiful women). For him adoption of this style, he made his acclaim as a beautiful women’s painter forever.
